CHARITY HOCKEY

Sport can bring the community together with a common understanding and spirit to cheer each other on.

This first-of-its-kind event brings together community-serving organizations that support those fleeing violence. Without community support, we can not stop the cycle of violence.
We are supporting female athletes and leaders so we may have strong examples for young women to follow, and to show the power of natural supports, like those found on a team.

Jessica Martel Foundation

WIN House

Jessie’s House is a 35 bed all-gender shelter that provides safe haven for individuals and families who are fleeing domestic violence. We provide inclusive, client-led support applying trauma informed practices. We meet clients where they are at to build safety plans, provide 24/7 crisis support, culturally specific programming, and community referrals that best meet our clients’ needs . In addition to our residential program, we offer Innovative Child Care, Outreach Programming, and a Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART) in partnership with Alberta Health Services.

The Jessica Martel Memorial Foundation was founded in memory of Jessica Martel, a young mother who tragically lost her life to domestic violence. Jessie’s House opened in 2020, and it was funded almost exclusively through fundraising, corporate donations, and individual gifts. We are grateful for the support of our community, and proud that we can serve vulnerable community members who need our help. Until all homes are safe, there’s Jessie’s House.

WIN House provides a safe place for women, non-binary individuals and children experiencing domestic violence. WIN House empowers women to rise above abuse by offering programs and services. WIN House operates three emergency shelters in Edmonton – WIN I, WIN II, & WIN III (Carol’s House). We serve over 500 individuals in a year. WIN House programs and services include Crisis Intervention, Pet Safety Program, On-Site Nurse, Child Support, Counselling, New Start Kits, and outreach & referral services. We work with other community organizations to provide services and referrals for housing, medical, financial, and legal support.
We believe all people deserve to feel safe at home. We offer support by utilizing best practices and leading community organizations to provide diverse, solution-based strategies. We provide crisis intervention, safe housing, and education to empower individuals experiencing domestic violence and encourage their new start.
